Sodd?s most interesting feature is the partially submerged fossilised forest found on its territory, which only emerges in periods of intense drought. The remains of a Miocenic forest, (from about 25 million years ago), is found halfway between Sodd and the centre of Zuri, (a hamlet of Ghilarza, which following the building of the lake, together with the wonderful Romanesque Church of San Pietro, was entirely rebuilt higher up). This forest lifts its branches to the sky, with palms and monkey bread trees, which were destroyed by a shower of lapilli from the nearby volcanic cones. This caused the wood to undergo a process of silicization and it has remained in a petrified state up to our present days. Part of the fossilised trees from the Montigu Abile forest are displayed in front of the Church of 'Santa Maria Maddalena' at Sodd. Canoes are available for hire and over the past few years, tourists can also take a boat ride on the lake to admire the lush mountain panoramas and visit the numerous archaeological remains scattered along its banks, (some of which are partially submerged, or like the nuraghe, peek out every now and then,). The Soddi territory offers two trails for excursions which are suitable for everyone. They are marked with the conventional red and white signs and are indicated with the numbers 815 and 816, taking you along two routes which are particularly interesting from a scenic and archaeological point of view. Path 815, starting from the SP 54 at about a kilometre from the village, allows you to visit the 'Aur' Nuraghe, the 'Corona' Nuraghe, the 'Pajolu' Nuraghe and the wonderful 'Crastu' Nuraghe. Path 816, instead, crosses the village and skirts the 'Sant?Anastasia' Nuraghe, following the edge of the plateau, offering an incomparable view over the lake and the nearby territories.
