Fordongianus

The sixteenth century pink trachyte parish Church of San Pietro Apostolo is to be found not far from the 'Casa Aragonese'. Its present appearance is mainly due to a series of modern age renovations. The Roman Baths are found on the banks of the river and date back to the I century AD, and after a lengthy period of restoration can now be visited. The old "Aquae Ypsitanae" are made up of two buildings, inside one we still find a rectangular swimming pool whose water comes from the thermal springs and reaches almost 54 degrees. The little country Church of San Lussorio rises at just a few kilometres from the village, built by Vittoriani monks towards 1100m on an existing early-Christian crypt. The remains of the ancient thermal baths enveloped in steam are, to say the least, an unforgettable scene. Both the Romanesque Church of San Lussorio and the nearby "cumbessias" or "muristenes', the buildings for housing pilgrims are extremely interesting; the layout of these houses evokes the sacred enclosure of the Nuraghic culture. During the feast dedicated to the village Patron Saint, San Lussorio on 20th and 30th August the "cumbessias" are animated with the 'novenanti' . In August an exhibition of local craftwork is held in the 'Casa Aragonese'. Src: http://www.sardegnaturismo.it/offerta/cultura/cittaepaesi/paesi/fordongianus.html
