During the renovations carried out in 1983 by the 'Monuments and Fine Arts Office' of Cagliari-Oristano, a late ancient church complete with baptismal font was brought to light. These structures have been dated to the VI century AD. The little place of worship found under the paved floor has a Latin cross floor-plan and comprises a single nave with an apse and two square rooms on either side of the presbytery. At the centre of the baptistery, a circular basin was still found "in situ', edged inside by four lobes in the form of a cross, containing a step, The floor of the room was a simple layer of lime. A single Romanesque room was then built on top of this ancient church and probably, originally had a floor made with tiles laid out in a herringbone pattern, seeing the number of fragments which have been found. Around the church there was a necropolis with graves dating to the VI-VII century AD. Nurachi preserves traditions and historical remains of great interest that will soon be put on display in the "Peppetto Pau" Archaeological and Ethnographical Museum. One of its most important products is wine in particular 'Vernaccia', a prized white wine which is produced all over the valley of the Tirso.
