Asuni

Despite being part of the commune of Samugheo, the ruins of the Medusa Castle are closely linked to Asuni and were recorded as pertaining to the village by Judge Arborea Pietro I, way back in 1189. The castle rises on the crest of the gorge formed by the Riu Aratisi and is completely dug into the marble rocks. It was built in the Byzantine period as a means of controlling the territory and as a defence against the Barbaricini, who often penetrated into the lands of the Marmilla to plunder the villages. Unfortunately today, it is completely overgrown with thick vegetation, making it difficult to visit the remains. According to legend the ghost of the imaginary Queen Medusa still roams the castle. Numerous Nuraghi are still present in the countryside around Asuni, like those of 'Casteddu' and 'San Giovanni', but above all the area is scattered with 'domus de janas'(chamber tombs), which find their most splendid representation in the Budragas necropolis on the outskirts of the village. The cave of 'Su Stampu de Muscione Mannu', which opens in the Costa Ualla area, is a natural wonder. Src: http://www.sardegnaturismo.it/offerta/cultura/cittaepaesi/paesi/asuni.html
