The most important feast is that of Santa Maria held on 8th September. The devotees adorn the statue of the Saint with colourful lace-trimmed silk garments and silver chains with pendants. The religious ceremony is announced by the long loud ringing of the "sagrestaneddus", who run around the village streets inviting the inhabitants to the evening recitation of the rosary which is said in Sardinian. During the last decade, a huge bonfire is set alight from wood collected on Mount Arci. In the evening "is goccius cantaus" are recited. For each of the three days of the festival there are two processions around the main streets of the village, with horsemen, some of whom are dressed in traditional Sardinian costumes, bearing embroidered standards. The exhibition in the Sardinian Traditional Toy Museum is very interesting. Src: http://www.sardegnaturismo.it/offerta/cultura/cittaepaesi/paesi/ales.html
