Seneghe

Seneghe is renowned for its olive oil which was awarded the 'Ercole Oliario' prize in 1994, the most prestigious recognition of product quality. It also produces an excellent honey which has won a number of prizes at a national level. However, Seneghe is rightly famous for another reason, namely the abundance of archaeological sites scattered over its territory. There are numerous nuraghi surrounding the village, which can make an interesting excursion on foot or by bike. The extremely interesting and fascinating ancient water springs should also be visited. As regards events, one of the most noteworthy is the "Pane e olio in frantoio",(Bread and Milled Olives Exhibition), held at the end of November. It takes place around the streets of the historic centre of Seneghe and in the various old olive mills found within the territory. The "prenzas apertas" is also part of the event: the olive mills, both in use and disuse, are opened to the public with displays of typical cheese, Sardinian sweets and cakes, different local products and the tasting of the various kinds of oils. As well as free tasting of toasted bread seasoned with the new oil from the village, a whole ox is roasted in the square.
