Neoneli

The parish church lies in the upper part of the village, dedicated to San Pietro, and has a bipartite facade in pink trachyte with a central rose window and horizontal coping. It was rebuilt in 1611 on an existing structure (either from the XIV or the XVI century) and houses a precious fifteenth century Catalonian-style silver monstrance and two multi-coloured wooden statues. Just a few km from Neoneli, on the road to Austis, we find the country church of the 'Angelo' (1640), with a pointed arched front porch; on the first Monday in August every year a characteristic feast takes place here. On the slopes of Mount Santa Vittoria, which touches 900 m of height with its perpendicular and sheer granite rocks, we find the Assai natural oasis where it is possible to come across lovely animals like roe and fallow deer. There are plenty of trails to follow through these woods of great beauty, among the springs and rocks of the most unusual shapes, one of which is known with the name of "Sa Crabarissa", (according to popular tradition, it figures a beautiful young girl). Recently the traditional polyphonic choir of Neoneli (coro a tenores) has sprung to national fame for its artistic collaboration with the singer Elio from 'Elio e le Storie Tese'.
