Ollastra

In the territory of Ollastra it is possible to admire the remains of a number of several nuraghi among which we find "Accas", "San Perdu" and "S'Orcu". Walks along the surrounding hills are recommended to nature lovers and also in the caves of "s'arutta e'Conca e' Mesu" and 's'arutta e' Margini Figu". Furthermore you can continue by bike as far as the Santa Vittoria dam. For visitors who wish to take a trip within the historic centre, there are a number of churches to be visited; the Church of San Costantino, the Church of San Marco, the Church of Santa Severa and of San Sebastiano. The Church of Santa Severa, with a nave and two aisles, has a very detailed entry porch, surmounted by a bell gable with a number of aniconistic betil stones on its summit. In January, the village celebrates the Feast of San Sebastiano According to an old rite, various groups of participants gather in front of the church for the feast, after having sung their way all round the village. They then make 'so soziu"; using the wood gathered at dawn to lay bonfires which will be lit at sunset. At the end of the day, an oxdrawn cart carrying a tree-trunk with branches arranged in a fan-shape passes through the streets of the little centre. All the locals gather around the fire to sing and dance until daylight breaks. The traditional Zootechnics meeting is also worthy of note and has been held here on the 25th April since 1839, attracting both people in the trade and a large public.
