Albagiara

The parish Church of San Sebastiano in the centre of the town, is of certain interest, rebuilt between the seventeenth and eighteenth century on a structure which was most probably medieval, as is demonstrated by the curvilinear facade with inflexed arch coping and two added side-chapels. In the area surrounding Albagiara, the Su Padenti wood stretches out with its durmast, cork and ilex trees. offering cool and shade to visitors on hot summer days. Excellent-quality almonds and olives, producing a particularly tasty kind of oil, are grown here. Almonds are the basic ingredients of the main kinds of traditional sweets, which gladden the religious feasts, like the 'amaretti', the 'gateau' and the 'gueffus'.
