Baressa

The village has a charming and well-cared for historic centre, which is better seen on foot. Not far from the inhabited centre, a stop can also be made in the Marrogali park, immersed in woods of ilex and durmast trees , so suggestive and characteristic for its typical Mediterranean colours. A visit to the charming country church dedicated to Santa Maria is also recommended, rebuilt on its own remains after it had been destroyed in around 1700. The village is renowned and well known in the whole of Sardinia, because of an important event which is held during the first week of September: the 'Almond' Festival. It is organised by the local authorities together with the help of the Municipal Tourist Board and the Almond gatherers, and every year attracts numerous visitors who come from all over the Island to savour the extraordinary flavour of the local products. The festival has a number of events which continue all day long. Numerous stands are set up in the village, displaying the agro-industrial delicacies of Baressa, an impromptu exhibition of paintings and a craft shop.
