The Castle of Saint Michele On top of the eponymous hill, north-west respect to the historic centre, lies the Castle of Saint Michele, a fortress which foundation dates back to the Judicial age. In the course of its long life, the castle has been used for the most various functions: as a defensive structure with bastions and moat; as a house for aristocratic families, as a lazaret, as military building, and finally, as the Municipal Centre of Art and Culture, hosting important art and cultural manifestations. Once isolated from the city centre, the only continuity between the castle and the urban frame is represented by the surrounding park, populated with Aleppo pinewoods.
