In 1254 the order of the Dominicans constituted a community in Cagliari, settling in the Villanova district and realizing the church that later became the "Convent of Castel di Castro". The Dominicans arrived in Cagliari in 1254 where they established a community in the Villanova district; here they built a convent church in the place where there was an ancient Benedictine church dedicated to Sant'Anna, later incorporated into the cloister. Initially the naming of Sant'Anna remained but later the structure was called "Convento di Castel di Castro". During the Aragonese domination the building was rebuilt in Gothic-Catalan style, at the expense of the rulers of Aragon, and the king of Spain Charles V granted him the title of Royal Convent. In 1943, following the bombing of the city, the structure was completely destroyed. Today's request was erected in the 1950s on the remains of the ancient Gothic-Catalan church. From via XXIV Maggio you can reach the cloister and the crypt, or lower church, made up of the remains of the ancient church. Sc: www.cagliariturismo.it
