Spiaggia Grande is found on the Island of Sant?Antioco in the municipal area of Calasetta. It is reached by going along the road that leads out of the town of Calasetta down towards Punta Maggiore. The Island of Sant?Antioco is the largest of the small islands around Sardinia and is joined to the main island along an isthmus, probably built by the Carthaginians and later improved upon by the Romans. Its coastline is jagged in the south, where there are tall cliffs, whilst in the north the coast is more sandy. The two most important towns are Calasetta, which has a well equipped tourist harbour, and Sant?Antioco, which has a number of facilities.
