Giara di Siddi

From the name of the town derives the Giara di Siddi, also called su Pranu, a basaltic plateau with steep walls of 300 meters. The environment is enchanted and the air pervaded by essences and aromas of Mediterranean scrub. Over one hundred tree species (many rare) and holm oak woods cover the sa Fogaia park, which with its paths enters the eastern slope of su pranu. Here the most interesting 'corridor' nuraghe in the area stands out. The whole Giara preserves an invaluable archaeological heritage: the oldest legacy is a fragment of a ring from the Middle Neolithic. The domu de Janas of Scaba 'e Arriu dates back to a little later. The Nuragic age is the most documented: about twenty nuraghi (simple, complex and 'corridor'), villages and, above all, the Giants 'tomb of sa Domu' e s'Orku, an extraordinary (and well preserved) example of Nuragic funerary architecture (1500-1300 BC), made of basaltic blocks. Settlement remains, ceramics and coins testify to the Punic passage.
