Furtei

The historic centre of the village is of certain interest where a number of suggestive churches can be admired. The village is also well known for its gold mine, which once extracted precious minerals and boasted high levels of production. The parish Church of Santa Barbara preserves an important oil painting on wood by Antioco Mainas (XVI century) depicting the Crucifixion and also an interesting eighteenth century "Dormitio Virginis" with all the relevant set of embroidered clothes, sandals and silver crown. The country Church of San Narciso rises on a hill near the village and the country Church of San Biagio is situated in the countryside, and was once the parish church of the destroyed village of Nuraxi. It is well worth taking part in the Feast of San Narcisio, which takes place on the last Sunday of October. The religious part of the ceremony for the Saint, invoked to save the area from a plague of locusts, is held in the little XIII century church and is distinguished by two particular religious rituals; the first is the chanting of the Holy Rosary in the Sardinian Campidanese language (s'arrosarieddu cantau) in alternating chants by the men in the side aisle and by the women in the central nave. At the end of the Rosary, the believers invoke San Narciso with "Is Coggius", also in Sardinian Campidanese. The feast also includes tasting of roast chestnuts and new wine.
