Church of San Lorenzo (16th century)

Parish of San Lorenzo Martire It was born as a late Gothic church with characteristic spans with ribbed star vaults with pendulous gems. It has a Latin cross plan whose central nave is overlooked by two chapels on each side. The barrel vault is enriched by the monumental dome, with an octagonal base, which is inserted at the intersection of the transept. The masonry technique is that of squared stone blocks, with small pieces of stones. The building, made up of various bodies dating back to different eras, constitutes a complex organism that is not easy to interpret in style. The current entrance to the Church, consisting of a large square-plan room particularly interesting for the ribbed star vault with pendulous gems, is the oldest part of the building and is attributable to the late Aragonese Gothic. The pendulous gem, which acts as a keystone, bears the effigy of San Lorenzo and the inscription "Sancte Laurenti, ora pro nobis. Anno Domini 1591 ".
