The museum stands on the Sant’Onofrio hill in Nuoro. It has rich collections covering all the artistic and daily use objects of traditional Sardinian life (garments, jewellery, textiles carved wooden handicrafts, masks, breads, popular musical instruments, utensils and domestic and work tools). Great attention is devoted to the folk music, dancing and singing traditions linked to popular religious events. The collection numbers about 8000 items, mostly dated between the late 1800s and the 1950s. It includes about 80 male and female costumes, all authentic and actually worn before being obtained by the museum. They represent the various styles and designs from the island’s different historical and geographical sub-regions and are put on display in turn, both to protect them from deterioration and to allow most of the collection to be admired.
