San Giovanni di Sinis

On the threshold of the peninsula of Sinis, stretches the seaside resort of San Giovanni, once famous for its characteristic fishermen's huts built from wood and rushes, a few of which still remain to the east of the main road, not too far from Punic archaeological area of Tharros. At the entrance to the village of San Giovanni, is the early-Christian church of San Giovanni dating back to the 5th Century, although a large part of what you see is, in fact, due to modifications during the 9th and 10th centuries. But the real attraction to this area is the wonderful variety of landscape and sheer quality of the Punic ruins at Tharros , the Spanish tower of San Giovanni, together with the fishermen’s huts, the splendid vegetation that hems the dunes and the rocks that all form an evocative whole. Go out of Oristano in the direction of Cuglieri, and at the first intersection near the Santuario del Rimedio go over the elevated section of road and follow the signposts for Tharros. After 20 kilometres, the road ends in the car park of the archaeological Area of Tharros and the beach is found on the right. Sc: http://www.sardegnaturismo.it
