Villa San Pietro

In the inhabited centre, the Romanesque Church of San Pietro is of notable interest and the village takes its name from this church. It was built at around the end of the XIII century and has a single naved sanctuary, with an orientated apse and a wooden roof. A bell gable and a huge oeil-de-boeuf adorn the beautiful façade. The celebrations in honour of the Patron Saint are held on the last Sunday in June with poetry contests and fireworks. The passing-by of Sant'Efisio on the first of May is also extremely suggestive. The locally produced delicious red tomatoes are one of the specialities of this area. A walk along one of the mountain paths gives you the chance to admire endemic examples of rare beauty; the Mediterranean shrub voices all the lively colours of myrtle, strawberry trees, oleanders and oleasters.
