Serdiana

The Church of Santa Maria of Sibiola at Serdiana is recommended for a visit. During the Middle Ages, the ''villa'' of Sibiola, recorded at the end of the XVI century in 1215, belonged to the curatoria of Dolia and was part of the Giudicato of Cagliari. The oldest record of the name of the church appears in the last inventory, dating to 1338, and regarding the properties owned by the Vittorini of Marseilles in Sardinia. Another church of notable artistic importance is the Church of San Salvatore. The parish church was built between the XV and the XVI century and later took on Neoclassical and late Baroque styles. As regards the urban structures of the historic centre, one of the most important buildings in the village is found here: the Casa Carcassona, better known as Castello Roberti, dating to the XVIII century. The building, which belonged to Efisio Luigi Carcassona, the Marquis of San Saverio, is flanked by two battlemented towers and has two floors. An outing should be made to the countryside, to the area near the village where two rivers flow. One of these rivers is the Rio Bonarba, rising in the Gerrei mountains, which takes the name of the Rio Flumini when it crosses the Serdiana countryside; towards its estuary, it becomes the Rio Mannu and flows into the Gulf of Cagliari through the Santa Gilla lagoon. The other river is the Rio Bardella, which just after the beginning of its course, changes its name to the Rio Balardi, a tributary of the Rio Mannu.
