Mura Pisane-Torre Guelfa

In the centre of Iglesias, in Sardinia, exist a wall curtain with a prominent tower, The Guelph Tower on his top. Situated in a trategic point that oversec the whole city and beyond. The building of the wall curtain erected to protect the old town, goes back to the end of the XIII century when the city was named Villa di Chiesa. The boundary walls are a part of the process of urbanizaion of the city strated by Count Ugolino della Gherardesca. The aragonese army arrived in Sardinia in 1323 and tried to conquer the city of Iglesias. The siege lasted 8 months resulting in their victory. They ruled for 400 years.
