Museo civico Archeologico Genna Maria

This complex stands on the summit of the hill of Genna Maria, in the Marmilla district. It consists of a three-tower curtain wall enclosing the central keep and a well partially dug into the living rock, protected by a hexagonal set of outer walls and a village situated both inside and outside this circle of walls. The central keep, perhaps constructed in the Middle Bronze Age (15th century BC) has a single chamber. The stone houses inside the complex are well-structured and of good quality, some are decorated with fine geometrical motifs. Excavations have brought to light various artefacts such as pear-shaped vases, flasks, small jugs, scoops, braziers, bread stamps, cooking pots and grindstones, which have helped reconstruct the life of this farming community. At Sanluri leave SS 131 and make a turn at the crossroads with SP 52 and head for Villanovaforru. In the vicinity of the town, take a left turn onto SP 49, in the direction of Collinas. The archaeological site is a couple of hundred metres further on. Sc: http://www.sardegnaturismo.it
